Southern Pines Youth Rugby Club competes in Carolina Ruggerfest

The Southern Pines Youth Rugby Club took three teams to Matthews, NC, recently to compete in the annual Carolina Ruggerfest at the premier youth rugby tournament in the state that has 86 teams, 1,800 players, and seven fields.

Southern Pines Youth Rugby Club’s developing high school teams, the Harlequins and Jokers, got great preseason matches against talented clubs ranging from Georgia to Ohio and across North Carolina.

Their 12 and under team highlighted the weekend as they went 3-0 and won their division. Their veterans embodied the core tenant of rugby — respect and played amazingly as they always do.

The rookie players cut their teeth against phenomenal competition, persevered through on-the-field learning, and made the club insanely proud.

The Southern Pines Youth Rugby Club is always welcoming new players, ages 4-18 years old, and no experience is necessary. For their high school players, they have a lot of connections for rugby scholarships. You can find more information on their website, Facebook page, or Instagram.
