The O’Neal Lady Falcons basketball team has won 55 straight conference games. The largest conference winning streak has now put them in first place in their conference.
O’NEAL SCHOOL:
BOYS BASKETBALL 9-6 (2-2):
The men’s basketball team split last week. Losing to Salem Baptist in a conference game on Tuesday 50-41. The Falcons were able to win their second conference game of the week on Friday at Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill 72-50.
Tuesday against Carolina Friends 6-4 at 7 p.m. conference game.
Wednesday at North Moore 4-5 at 7 p.m.
Friday against Salem Baptist 8-8 at 7 p.m. conference game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL 12-3 (4-0):
The Lady Falcons are now standing alone at the top of their conference at 4-0 as they were able to continue their 55 conference game win streak with two conference wins last week. They are also ranked number 1 in the NCISSA 2A. On Tuesday, they traveled to Salem Baptist to seal a 64-24 victory. On Friday, they traveled to Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill for a 52-4 win to mark the 55th win of their streak.
Tuesday against Carolina Friends 3-4 at 5:30 p.m. conference game.
Friday against Salem Baptist 2-10 at 5:30 p.m. conference game.
SWIM:
The Falcon swim team had a strong showing Monday when they traveled to Hillsboro for a meet against multiple conference teams. The Falcons had many season and personal best times, as well as new state qualifiers. Overall, the girls’ team finished in first place as a team, and the boys finished second behind Trinity School of Durham/Chapel Hill.
New state qualifiers included:
– Charlie Kuzma in the 200 freestyle
– Henry Reibe 100 fly style
– Sam Schmitz in the 500 freestyle
Additionally, the stand-out swims of the meet were from Oscar Little and Jordin Reed in the 100 freestyle as well as John Shepard and Michaela Stone in the 100 backstroke.
The Falcons are looking forward to their final home meet and senior night Jan. 20. Afterward, they will use the next two weeks to have consistent and hard training before resting for the conference and state meet.
NORTH MOORE:
BOYS BASKETBALL 4-5 (1-2):
Monday, the Mustangs took a 76-36 loss on the road against conference rivals Hugh M. Cummings High School. The Mustangs will have an inner county matchup and a conference game this week.
Monday against O’Neal 9-6 at 7 p.m.
Friday at Jordan-Mathews 2-9 at 7:30 p.m. conference game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL 1-7 (0-3)
A different game with the same outcome for the Lady Mustangs last Monday. On the road at Cummings, the ladies fall to 0-3 in the conference with a 41-34 loss, causing them to fall to last place in the conference standings.
Monday at Jordan-Mathews 4-8 at 6 p.m. conference game.
PINECREST:
BOYS BASKETBALL 10-4 (3-1):
The Patriots were able to add to their conference wins and move up one position in the conference standings. They traveled to Hoke County on Friday and won 72-41.
On Tuesday, the Patriots will travel to Union Pines for an inner county and conference rivalry game. The Patriots and Vikings are neck and neck in the conference standings with the Vikings in second and the Patriots in third.
Tip-off is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Union Pines is 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
GIRLS BASKETBALL 8-4 (2-1):
The Lady Patriots also won on Friday at Hoke County 64-30.
Tuesday, the Lady Patriots will also travel to Union Pines. Tip-off is 6 p.m. Union Pines is 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
WRESTLING:
The Patriots Wrestling added another championship to their outstanding season. They competed in the Dash Tournament and brought home that championship with a team score of 201.5.
UNION PINES:
BOYS BASKETBALL 14-2 (4-1):
The Vikings were able to add more wins to their conference totals. On Tuesday, they traveled to Hoke County and won 63-52. On Friday, they continued their winning streak against Southern Lee with a 62-37 win.
Tuesday against Pinecrest 10-4 at 7:30 p.m. conference game.
Friday against Lee County 2-11 at 7:30 p.m. conference game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL 9-7 (3-2):
The Lady Vikings were also able to seal two conference wins last week. Tuesday, at Hoke County, the Vikings won 74-30. On Friday, at Southern Lee, the Lady Vikings won 51-10.
Tuesday against Pinecrest 8-4 at 6 p.m. conference game.
Friday against Lee County 1-9 at 6 p.m. conference game.
WRESTLING:
The Vikings put up solid results in last week’s duals.
