SPPD investigating two shootings in two days

The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating two shootings in two days.

Police were dispatched to a shooting at Brookside Park Apartments Saturday around 7 p.m. Authorities identified the victim in a press release as Jeremiah McBride, 22, of Cameron.

He was airlifted from the Southern Pines baseball field to an area trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time.

“This incident was not a random act of violence, and there is not an ongoing threat to the community,” said the press release.

The first shooting occurred Friday evening. The victim, Shaquille Jones, 26, of Jackson Springs, was driven to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst in a private vehicle just before 9 p.m. His condition is unknown at this time.

Southern Pines Police cordoned off Friday night’s crime scene.

The shooting occurred on South Mechanic Street near the intersection with West Massachusetts Avenue.

Police said Friday night’s shooting was also not a random act.

Authorities have not released any information on the shooters and if they have been captured.
