A suspect is dead, and an officer was injured in a shooting Monday night in Robbins.
Around 8 p.m., officers responded to a man firing a shotgun in the air in multiple locations in downtown Robbins.
“Officer’s made numerous attempts to disarm the suspect; however, the suspect refused to
cooperate with officers and would not put the firearm down,” said Robbins Police Chief Lawson Thomas. “The suspect fled from officers and a short time later was encountered by a Robbins police officer at Robbins Mini Storage, in the 200 block of Salisbury Street. The Robbins police officer fired their duty weapon at the suspect and the suspect was struck by the gunfire.”
A medevac helicopter was called, but Christopher Minor, 38, died at the scene. It is believed that Minor suffered from mental illness.
One officer was taken to a hospital for treatment. It’s unclear what kind of injuries the officer sustained. The name of the officer was not released, nor was their department.
“The SBI has been called in to help investigate since this was an officer-involved shooting,” said Thomas. “This is an ongoing investigation.”
Multiple police agencies from around the county responded to the incident.
