Aberdeen homeowner holds suspect at gunpoint during burglary attempt

An Aberdeen homeowner reportedly held a suspected intruder at gunpoint late Sunday night until officers arrived, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old man on multiple charges, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Police said officers responded just before 11 p.m. on March 1 to a home in the area of Bethesda Avenue in reference to a burglary in progress.

“The victim, who was in his home with his spouse at the time, advised that a male had entered his screened-in porch trying to make entry into his home,” writes the department in a press release. “The victim advised the male had a knife in his possession.”

When officers arrived, they found both the homeowner and the suspect, later identified as Tylee Keyshaun Cannady, 21, of Aberdeen, on the porch. Authorities said the homeowner had detained Cannady at gunpoint until officers took him into custody.

Officers secured a knife at the scene, according to police. During a search, officers also reportedly located alleged marijuana paraphernalia on Cannady’s person.

Following the investigation, warrants were obtained charging Cannady with felony first-degree burglary, felony breaking or entering with intent to terrorize, misdemeanor first-degree trespass, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Cannady was taken before a Moore County magistrate and ordered held without bond pending review by a judicial official.

All charges are allegations, and Cannady is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
