Barbara Janette Foushee Koonce, age 92, went to be with her Lord on August 6, 2026, at her home. She was born on September 16, 1933, to William and Pearl Foushee. She grew up with two sisters and three brothers whom she loved dearly.
Barbara was a loyal follower of Jesus. She was actively involved in First Baptist Church of Vass. Over the years, she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, vacation Bible School teacher, and as a Women’s Missionary Union representative. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years and was active in the Vass Women’s Club.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Koonce (Lauren) and Jennifer Koonce Vest, grandsons, Bailey Vest (Brooke) and Wilder Grey Spencer Koonce, great-grandchildren, Brynlee, and Colson Vest, son-in-law, David Vest, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Foushee, husband, Barney Koonce, sisters and brothers, Joyce Foushee, Mildred Foushee, Jack Foushee, Clyde Foushee and Frank Foushee, Sr., dear friend, Howard and Belinda Hennings, Sr., John Sye and Donald Bridgers, Sr., Joe and Ruth Frye, Charles and Peggy Evans, Benton and Barbara Thrailkill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meredith College in memory of Barbara Koonce.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of Vass. The family will receive friend one hour prior to the service at the church from 2 until 3. Burial will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery.
