Droxie Wooten Hennings, 84, passed away at home on Monday, September 7, 2026, surrounded by her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Vass, with Pastor Chandler Wilkes officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Droxie was born in Harnett County on September 28, 1941, to the late Oscar Junior Wooten and Jeanette Poynter. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Janet Simpson.
Droxie was a beautician in Vass for almost 25 years before she and her husband, Herman, built and operated Mt. Pleasant Grocery. The store was an integral part of the local community, where most people knew it as “Droxies” or “The Yellow Store.”
Droxie is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Herman T. Hennings, and sons, Daniel Hennings (Denise) and Thomas Hennings (Missy); honorary daughter Corky Smith; grandchildren, Clay Hennings (Amy), Heather Hennings (Chasity), Matthew Hennings (Rebecca), Erin Kowalski (Henry) and six great-grandchildren.
