Mary Catherine “Cathy” Arovits passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, at her home in Pinehurst, NC.
Born on April 17, 1943, in Silex, MO, to the late George and Irma Lenk and was one of ten children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Chapman and brother Benny Lenk.
Cathy had 5 brothers and 4 sisters and loved talking to them all the time. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler and even joined the bowling 800 club, which is not an easy task. She and Ernie loved traveling to many different countries; she loved her Judge Judy, country music, especially Dolly, and believed deeply in her faith. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle with her family and friends in MO but also loved playing any card game with anyone she met. Cathy was a dental assistant in the area for many years before retiring and in MO long before that.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest “Ernie” Arovits and four children, Elaine Chapman Thomas Carey, Jonathan Chapman (Kay), Patrick Chapman, and Andrea Arovits Facer; grandchildren, Michael Thomas (Beth), Brandon Thomas, and Sarah Thomas Ballance, Brian Keim (Samantha) of Lake St. Louis, MO, Deanna Lawhorn (Timothy), Larry Facer and Kaitlin Facer Graindorge(Alex); great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kenzie and Paisley Thomas, Landon Thomas, Jacob Ballance, Ava, Brody, Ellie, and Demi Keim. She was also very excited to meet her newest great-grandson, Axel Graindorge in December.
