A Moore County jury found Robert Brunner guilty Wednesday of first-degree statutory sexual offense and taking indecent liberties with a child following a trial involving the sexual assault of a 6-year-old child.
The verdict was returned Sept. 16 in Moore County Superior Court after prosecutors presented evidence concerning the sexual assault, according to a news release from Moore County District Attorney Michael Hardin.
Records with the Moore County Detention Center indicate that the date of the offense was December 1, 2023. At the time of his booking on December 21, Davis was 59 years old.
Superior Court Judge Warren McSweeney sentenced Brunner to 240 to 348 months in prison.
Assistant District Attorney Kim Davis prosecuted the case for the Moore County District Attorney’s Office. Southern Pines Police Department Detective Walter Lowery investigated the case.
“I am grateful to the jury for carefully considering the evidence and reaching a verdict,” Davis said. “I am also grateful to the Southern Pines Police Department, the Child Advocacy Center of Moore County, and everyone who supported this child throughout the process.”
