A collision between an SUV and a tractor closed one lane of Airport Road Wednesday afternoon but left all occupants uninjured. The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on the outskirts of the Lakeview community, between Vass and Whispering Pines.
According to authorities on scene, a Toyota SUV traveling east rear-ended an International tractor. The SUV driver told authorities she had just come around a curve and did not see the tractor in time to avoid a collision.
Emergency crews initially checked for air transport due to concerns that the tractor operator may have been thrown from the vehicle. However, no injuries were reported.
The tractor sustained rear damage, with an attachment bent forward by the impact. The Toyota suffered significant front-end damage, but all occupants, including two children, were unharmed despite being visibly shaken.
One lane of Airport Road was temporarily closed as crews cleared the scene. North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrived to investigate the crash.Â
