A Southern Pines teenager lost his life in a single-vehicle crash near Jackson Springs on Tuesday around 9:30 a.m.
According to authorities on scene, the 17-year-old was driving west on Rose Ridge Road when he lost control at a curve, went off the road, struck a ditch, and rolled about 270 feet before coming to a rest upright upon hitting a group of trees.Â
The unidentified teen was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Authorities say that a high rate of speed played a factor in the crash.Â
Later in the day, Pinecrest High School identified the senior student as William Hagerty and said support would be on campus for students and staff.
