Two teenagers were arrested on gun charges, said the Southern Pines Police Department in a statement issued to Sandhills Sentinel.
Shabar Thomas Jr., 18, of Lake View, North Carolina, is facing charges of possession of a stolen firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. A juvenile, 16, of Southern Pines, was also allegedly found in possession of a firearm and will be charged in accordance with state juvenile laws.
“On February 3, 2024, members of the Southern Pines Police Department Directed Patrol Unit conducted a traffic stop on South Carlisle Street for violations of vehicle regulatory law,” said the police department. “During a search of the vehicle, a stolen Sig Sauer P229 was located in the waistline of Shabar Delana Thomas Jr. A second handgun, a Century Arms/Mini Draco, was located concealed on the floorboard of the vehicle where the juvenile was seated.”
Thomas Jr. was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
