Town workers find body at Southern Pines cemetery

A body was found Friday morning in Mount Hope Cemetery. 

Town of Southern Pines employees were working in the back of the cemetery when they discovered the body just after 11 a.m. 

The workers called 911, and when Southern Pines Fire and Rescue arrived, they confirmed the person was deceased according to radio traffic.

Southern Pines Deputy Police Chief Charles Campbell confirmed to Sandhills Sentinel that there was a deceased male found.

“Members of the Patrol Division located Kaslo McKinnon, 41, of Southern Pines,” said Campbell. “The cause of Mr. McKinnon’s death is unknown at this time. This investigation is active and ongoing, however, based upon the investigation to this point, there is no threat to the community. No further details or information will be released at this time.”

Mount Hope Cemetery is located on Morganton Road next to the U.S. 1 overpass.
