Two out-of-town teenagers are facing several charges after allegedly stealing cars in Aberdeen and Southern Pines, said Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis in a news advisory on Thursday.
On Oct. 22, Aberdeen police officers responded to the area of Aspen Street and Cedar Street about vandalism and then to the area of Poplar Street and U.S. 1 about a stolen motor vehicle.
On Oct. 23, Aberdeen investigators, along with Southern Pines police officers, responded to Tropical Smoothie Café due to the stolen vehicle from Aberdeen being located there.
On Oct. 24, Aberdeen officers and investigators responded to TownePlace Suites due to a vehicle that was broken into and a firearm that was stolen from within. They also responded, along with Southern Pines police investigators, to the 200 block of Pine Street about a motor vehicle that was located there that was previously stolen from Southern Pines.
On Oct. 25, Aberdeen officers responded to the area of Poplar Street and Peach Street about a vehicle being broken into.
On Oct. 27 into Oct. 28, Aberdeen officers and investigators responded to the area of Bradford Drive and Pecan Grove Drive and the area of Highway 5 and Anderson regarding a stolen motor vehicle and a vehicle breaking and entering.
Over the next several weeks, Aberdeen investigators investigated the crimes by reviewing statements, collecting evidence, obtaining video surveillance, and completing search warrants. On Nov. 13, Aberdeen investigators identified two juvenile suspects and began the process of obtaining juvenile petitions.
On Dec. 6, petitions were obtained through Moore County Juvenile Justice on one juvenile male, 14 years old, of Mount Holly, NC, for two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle, two counts of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, five counts of felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny of a firearm, felony possession of burglary tools, two counts of misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor possession of stolen property, misdemeanor injury to personal property, and possession of alcohol under 21.
On Dec. 16, petitions were obtained through Moore County Juvenile Justice on one juvenile male, 15 years old, of Charlotte, NC, for two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle, five counts of felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny of a firearm, two counts of felony conspiracy to commit breaking or entering of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny, and two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen property.
All juvenile petitions were fulfilled and will be processed through Moore County Juvenile Court. The news advisory did not name the suspects due to them being minors.
Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
