Union Pines wrestling had a weekend of success at the Viking Invitational. On Friday night, the girl’s team won their tournament, with wrestlers taking first place in their weight class, including Gabby Bumgardner, Lily Blair, MacKenzie Shaver, Isla Flechsenaar, and Abby Pursley. Addison Donathon took second place, and Lella Flechsenaar took third.
The boy’s team won their Saturday tournament. Individual champions were Liam Myles, Joe Lloyd, Finn McCafferty, Tripp Sullivan, Brock Sullivan, and Dantrell Williams. Placing second were Marcus Soukup, Thomas Salinas, and Dominic Blue, while Evan Thompson and Max Latyshenko each claimed third place.
“We ran two tournaments at two different locations Friday night and all day Saturday, said Coach Brian Gray. “We competed very well and had great results on the mat, but this weekend was also very much about the whole Viking Wrestling family coming together and helping make these tournaments happen. I’d like to give a huge public thanks to the parents for all they did!”
