A Vass woman was accidentally shot when her dog attacked her on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on Richfield Court at approximately 10:45 a.m. The road is off U.S. 1 near Cox Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory.
The patient was airflited to a trauma center from a makeshift landing zone in Vass.Â
Chief Deputy Andy Conway with the Moore County Sheriff’s Department said that this “appears to be an accidental shooting. A woman was being attacked by her own dog, and her husband shot the dog, accidentally striking her.”
The dog was killed at the scene. Officials did not disclose the breed or age of the dog.
