Warrants issued for suspect in SP shooting

UPDATE: The Southern Pines Police Department announced Marlon Harris has been apprehended. 


Warrants have been issued for a suspect in a shooting that took place in Southern Pines on Sunday afternoon.

A juvenile was shot at Brookside Park Apartments just before 4:30 p.m.

“Upon arrival members of the Patrol Division were informed that several male subjects had been shooting at each other, but left in a silver or gray in color Chrysler 300 prior to officer’s arrival,” announced Southern Pines Police Department in a statement to Sandhills Sentinel on Monday morning. “While on scene, the department was notified that a seventeen (17) year old victim had been taken to First Health by private vehicle. The victim, who sustained a nonlife threatening injury, was treated and released from the hospital.”

The police said this was not a random act of violence.

Warrants have been issued for Marlon Harris, 19, of Aberdeen, for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, going armed to the terror of the public and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

The police department is seeking the community’s assistance with locating Harris, identifying the other individuals allegedly involved, and locating the vehicle.
