If you receive a call from someone saying they are Duke Energy, it may be a scam.
According to a news release from law officials, a scam is currently going around Carthage demanding money in order to keep your power on. The scammer will tell you to purchase a prepaid card to make the payment.
The news release said, “If you receive a call from someone who claims to be from Duke Energy and threatens to turn off your energy, hang up, and call Duke Energy directly to inquire about your account.”
