Local police officers and their K-9 partners recently met with veterans from the Moore County Dog Tags program, said Southern Pines Police Department on their Facebook page.

Sgt. Embler, K-9 Officer Powers, Officer Gooding, K-9 Mary, and K-9 Jacky provided a demonstration for the veterans.

“The Moore County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Moore County Dog Tags program intended to pair wounded soldiers with dogs,” wrote Southern Pines Police Department.  “Soldiers are taught how to train Animal Service animals so they are more likely to be adopted.”

The curriculum includes proper handling of dogs, how to manage an aggressive dog, basic obedience training, insurance issues, information about search and rescue dogs, and careers associated with dogs.

The media page said their K-9 and handlers hold twice a year a demonstration and question and answer session.
