2021 was the deadliest year in two decades on NC roads

A traffic accident on U.S. Highway 1, south of Pinebluff, resulted in two victims being airlifted to a trauma center. The accident occurred at the intersection with Addor Road at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The collision left both vehicles with extensive damage and a Chevrolet on its side with one person pinned in the vehicle.

Rescue crews worked to extricate the victim and used hydraulic tools to cut the roof off the vehicle and remove the victim from the wreckage. She was transported to a landing zone at an area ballfield where she was placed into a waiting medivac helicopter from UNC and transported to a trauma center.

A second victim was also airlifted by a second medevac helicopter from the ballfield a short time later. Several other victims were transported to Firsthealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst.

U.S. 1 northbound was completely shut down for an extended period of time while emergency crews worked the scene while vehicles and debris were cleared from the road.

A tow truck from Community Towing came upon the wreck almost immediately after it occurred. Their crew went to work stabilizing the overturned vehicle by hooking cables from the tow truck to the vehicle. This helped to prevent further injury to the victim and allowed emergency crews to safely work to extricate the injured woman.

The NC Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriffs Department, NC Highway Patrol, and Pinebluff Police.
