On May 9, Aberdeen Police Chief Brian D. Chavis, Mayor Robbie Farrell, the Board of Commissioners, and additional administration staff from the Aberdeen Police Department attended the Wake Tech Public Safety Campus to receive the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation (NCLEA) award.
NCLEA is a state-level accreditation program focusing on standards specific to law enforcement within North Carolina. The Aberdeen Police Department is NC’s eighth law enforcement agency to achieve NCLEA-accredited status.
Law enforcement accreditation is a proactive step taken by law enforcement agencies to demonstrate commitment to the highest levels of professionalism. It’s a voluntary process where departments open themselves to an independent review. This review ensures that operations are not only efficient and effective but also adhere to a set of well-defined and accepted industry standards and best practices.
“Accreditation provides numerous benefits to our department, our personnel, and the community we serve,” said the Aberdeen Police Department in a press release. “It leads to enhanced professionalism within our ranks. The rigorous process ensures we have improved and up-to-date policies and procedures. By adhering to best practices, we operate with increased efficiency and effectiveness. Accreditation fosters greater trust and confidence from our community members and elected officials. It also contributes to reduced liability and risk for the department and enhances officer safety. Additionally, the accredited status may provide additional opportunities for grants and other funding in the future.”
“I, Chief Brian D. Chavis, would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the men and women of the Aberdeen Police Department for their hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout this past year,” said Chavis in a press release. “This achievement would not have been possible without your efforts. I am also deeply grateful for the continued support of City Manager Paul Sabiston, Mayor Robbie Farrell, the Board of Commissioners, and Sgt. Czako, our accreditation specialist—your partnership and encouragement were instrumental in helping us reach this important milestone.”
