Moore Regional nurse DAISY award

Jesse Weiss, BSN, R.N., has been recognized as a DAISY Award winner for FirstHealth of the Carolinas.

Weiss, a nurse who works at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, was nominated for the award by the family of a patient who he helped care for.

“Jesse was always on time with medications and ensured our grandfather would always have what he needs. Our family was kept well informed on his vitals and scheduled tests,” the nomination letter read. “Jesse took the time to answer any questions the family had and got answers for us when he didn’t know.”

The letter went on to praise Weiss for his encouraging tone and care.

“No matter how busy the day got, Jesse never showed signs of being stressed or overwhelmed. He was always available, extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled. Words will never express the amount of gratitude we have for Jesse, and we will forever be grateful,” the letter said.

Palesa Ford, MSN, R.N., CMSRN, the nurse manager of Inpatient Oncology, said she’s proud that Jesse is a part of the FirstHealth family.

“Jesse is a caring and compassionate nurse who goes out of his way to ensure that his patients receive the best quality care possible,” she said.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families. Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, recognizes an extraordinary nurse each month and has since 2014.
