Bank robber threatens to blow up Truist in Southern Pines

The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating a bank robbery at Truist Bank at 200 SW Broad Street on April 11 at approximately 5:07 p.m.

The Southern Pines Police Department Patrol and Investigation Divisions responded to Truist Bank for a reported robbery in progress. Upon arrival of the responding officers, it was reported that a suspect wearing a full camouflage outfit entered the institution, brandished a long gun and demanded money from bank employees. Prior to fleeing, the suspect stated there was a bomb on the roof of the building, according to the Southern Pines Police Department in a media release.

The unknown suspect left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled down the alley behind the post office, then toward S. Bennett Street. The roof of the bank was cleared for explosive devices. There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident. At this time, there is no known ongoing threat to the public. Additional information will be released at the appropriate time during the investigation.

The Southern Pines Police Department is seeking assistance from the community in identifying the suspect. The police request that any businesses with a security camera system review the footage and provide any information.
