Two arrested in connection with Southern Pines bank robbery

On Wednesday afternoon, the Southern Pines Police Department announced that two individuals have been arrested in connection with a recent bank robbery at Truist Bank. The robbery took place on April 11 when a man reportedly entered the Southern Pines Truist Bank, brandished a long gun, demanded money from bank employees, and said that there was a bomb on the roof of the building.

According to the Southern Pines Police Department, the arrests followed an investigation by the department’s Investigation Division with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Christopher Bibey, 47, of Southern Pines, was charged with Robbery With A Dangerous Weapon. He appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center without bond, pending a court appearance in Moore County on April 24.

Jaylan Schmidt, 24, of Carthage, was charged with Aid and Abet Robbery. He also appeared before a magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center without bond, with a court date set for May 1.

No other details were provided.
