A family suffered a sentimental loss on Thursday night after a shop and outbuilding caught fire and burned. The blaze broke out behind a home at the end of Samuel Medlin Lane in Cameron, just after 8 p.m.
As a result of the fire, a shop attached to a large shelter and outbuilding suffered extensive damage. According to the family on the scene, the shop was filled with sentimental items and held memories of a late father and grandfather.
However, due to a quick response by several fire departments, the fire was knocked down and contained to the two structures. A large barn next to the burned structure was saved from the fire, along with two vehicles and tractors.
Because of the distance from the main road, water had to be hauled in using tankers, and a drop tank setup was used on the scene to keep water fed to the main engine.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
The Moore County Fire Marshal was on the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
