Ben Schlottman, from Advance, NC, took the title after a birdie on the 11th hole of Pinehurst No. 2. It was a fitting end for this Auburn Senior that just graduated in the spring.

He had made a 30 foot birdie  putt on 18 during stroke play that helped move him into match play. He was one of the final players to make the cut.

Schlottman began the day of play with a 40 foot put on the first hole and never backed down from there on. On the second hole, he hit a brilliant shot and went 2 up.

After 9 holes, the former All-American had already carved out a 6 shot lead. His opponent, Mitchell Meissner, continued to struggle throughout the day, never quite finding a rhythm to his game.  Even so, Schlottman was just unstoppable.

Schlottman now joins a prestigious lineup of notable winners of the  Men’s North & South Amateur Championship. Many have gone on to become legends of golf and include the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Curtis Strange, Davis Love III, Walter Travis, and Francis Ouimet.
