The Cameron Solid Waste Collection Site, located at 276 Cranes Creek Road, will reopen on April 23 with limited collection measures in place. The Cameron Collection site was temporarily closed on March 30 due to challenges surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulty maintaining appropriate staffing levels at collection facilities.

The Cameron Collection Site will initially only accept regular household garbage, recycling, and metal items. Bulky items, like furniture or mattresses, will not be immediately accepted. Residents arriving to the Cameron Collection Site with bulky items will be asked to take those items to the Carthage Collection Site or the Aberdeen Landfill until the facility begins accepting all materials on Monday, April 27.

“We are very excited to reopen our collection site in Cameron,” said David Lambert, Solid Waste Manager. “We know that the residents in Cameron value this service, and we appreciate their incredible patience and understanding as we navigated these unique challenges.”

Moore County continues to see unprecedented amounts of waste arriving at sites throughout Moore County. In addition to regular household trash, the amount of yard debris and construction and demolition materials has significantly increased in recent weeks.

Residents are encouraged to “Avoid the Crowd” by visiting collection sites throughout the week whenever possible. By reducing volume during the evening hours and on Saturdays the likelihood of a particular site reaching its collection capacity will decrease and residents will better adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Moore County Collection sites regular hours are: Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Landfill at 456 Turning Leaf Way in Aberdeen also collects construction materials and yard waste from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the weekday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
