The construction on the 19,555 square foot new community center in Pinehurst is moving along.
The new $4.9 million community center and has a completion date of October 2019.
Construction is approximately 10 days behind schedule because of rainy weather, but it is hoped that the first steel will be going up in April. The community center is being built at Cannon Park on Rattlesnake Trail near N.C. 211.
The Village of Pinehurst said the concrete slab was poured on Tuesday and will begin building the gymnasium walls next.
So far, the village has paid over $524,000 for the community center, according to the village’s website.
Oakley Collier Architects was paid over $118,000 for the completion of design services and the start of their construction administration.
The village has also paid the remaining $406,170 to H.M. Kern Corporation to date.

The facility will house programs for all age groups and will include a full-size gymnasium with court lines for basketball, volleyball and pickleball, a multi-purpose room, various classrooms for programs and activities, offices for Parks & Recreation staff, restrooms, storage, and a small concession/catering kitchen.
“Staff is currently working to finalize fees and charges being proposed for the facility, as well as reservation guidelines for the gymnasium and multi-purpose room that will be available to the public to rent when not in use by the Parks and Recreation Department,” said Pinehurst’s website.
