Car catches fire in Carthage

A Jeep SUV caught fire at the intersection of N. McNeill Street and E. Barrett Street in Carthage Thursday afternoon.

The single male passenger escaped without any injuries.

Fire officials on the scene said the occupant was already safely out of the vehicle when emergency responders arrived on the scene.

There was extensive damage to the engine compartment of the SUV. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Responding to the scene was Carthage Fire and Rescue and Carthage Police Department.
