Car flips into Carthage driveway

A single-vehicle accident in Carthage left a vehicle on its side in the driveway of a home late Wednesday night.

Units were dispatched to the accident just after 11 p.m. They arrived on scene to find a Buick Le Sabre that was heading south into town on Highway 15-501 had run off the road at the Moore County Fairgrounds, jumped a ditch while crossing Green Acres Road and overturned coming to a stop on its side in the driveway of a home.

The first units arriving on scene found the male driver, who was the only occupant, to be unconscious and called for a helicopter but due to weather one wasn’t available. A second rescue out of Cypress Pointe Fire Department was dispatched to aid with extricating the patient.

The roof had to be cut off the vehicle to get the man out. Soon after, he became alert. As of this report, he was alert and talking when being transported to Moore Regional Hospital.

The southbound lane and the turning lane of Highway 15-501 was shut down for a brief period while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department and Carthage Police Department.
