New Year's Eve accident shuts down Hwy 73

A two-vehicle accident on New Year’s Eve shut down Highway 73 in Eastwood for a brief period. Units were dispatched just before 7 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 73 and Murdocksville Road.

The first units arriving on scene found a Mazda passenger car with heavy damage in the road, and a Ford F250 pickup truck partially off the road with damage to the front driver’s side. The impact nearly ripped the wheel off the truck.

The driver of the truck and his dog were not injured. Both female occupants in the Mazda were transported to Moore Regional Hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Highway 73 was shut down while the vehicles were removed by Rockwell Towing, and crews could clear the roadway.

Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Eastwood Fire Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, N.C. Highway Patrol and Rockwell Towing.
