Collision at busy Southern Pines intersection delays traffic

Traffic in Southern Pines was stalled on Wednesday morning after another collision occurred at the intersection of Brucewood Road and West Morganton Road. Shortly before 11:45 a.m., first responders were alerted to a two-vehicle collision in the middle of the highway.

Authorities arrived on scene to find a Ford pickup truck and a Chevrolet Trax had collided near the mouth of the intersection at Brucewood Road. The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating the crash.

This intersection has been the site of many wrecks in the past, with several happening in recent months.

First responders had to redirect traffic around the crash until the vehicles were able to safely be removed from the highway. Firefighters worked as a team to roll the Chevrolet away from the scene of the crash, down the hill, and onto Old Morganton Road. The Ford was able to be driven to Old Morganton Road, where both vehicles were then picked up by tow trucks.

The Chevrolet sustained severe damage to the front end, with heavy damage to the body and deployed airbags.

Responding to the scene were the Southern Pines Fire Department, Southern Pines Police Department, and Moore County EMS.
