On Wednesday, Gov. Cooper proclaimed Pinehurst “The Home of American Golf,” and, on Thursday, he came to the Home of American Golf to enjoy the first day of the championship. He spoke about the excitement of having the Hall of Fame back in Pinehurst and how the USGA has made Pinehurst its home.

When asked if he was a golfer, he replied that he did not have much time to play these days with such a busy schedule but would see what the future holds. Cooper said that he did bring a group of governors from across the country to play at Pinehurst No. 2 and that they still talk about it to this day.

Cooper added, “And when we think about golf in North Carolina, we think about not only Pinehurst but the 520 golf courses that are in almost every single county in the state.”
