In advance of potential winter weather, the Moore County Department of Public Safety has released winter weather preparedness guidelines. The department is urging residents to complete all preparations by Friday evening.
In addition, the Moore County Board of Commissioners announced that an emergency shelter will likely open on Friday at 3 p.m. at the county Parks and Recreation site, located at 155 Hillcrest Park Lane in Carthage.
Commissioner Chair Nick Picerno encouraged anyone in need to use the shelter, particularly vulnerable residents. “We want to get that out for anybody that needs it,” Picerno said. “The shelter’s there—use it. Especially the homeless, anybody that’s really struggling. The shelter’s there, go use it, especially if it turns as bad as it could be.”
Below are the Moore County Department of Public Safety guidelines.

You need to plan to stay home and off the roads this weekend
• NCDOT crews and first responders should be given priority on the roadway. Help them help us and stay home. Starting Saturday morning, plan to stay home and off the roads until at least Monday.
• Stranded vehicles may be left on the side of the road and marked with a piece of yellow caution tape. If you see a vehicle with yellow caution tape on the mirror or wrapping the vehicle, it has been checked by first responders and it is not an emergency.
• Please only call 911 for emergencies.
• For the most up-to-date roadway information, visit DriveNC.gov.
