Crash claims life in Robbins

Just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday, first responders were dispatched near the intersection of Spies Road and Talc Mine Road in Robbins for a single-vehicle rollover crash.

Three people, all from Robbins, were trapped in a Chevrolet pickup truck. Crews were able to get all occupants out of the vehicle. Two were flown with extensive injuries to a nearby trauma center. Their condition is unknown. According to authorities, the occupant in the back seat was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

According to N.C. Highway Patrol, the truck was traveling east on Spies Road heading toward Robbins when the driver ran off the edge of the road and overcorrected. The truck then traveled across both lanes, struck a tree, and flipped over.

Responding to the scene were Robbins Fire and Rescue, Highfalls Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Robbins Police Department, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
