Crews stop Carthage fire from reaching nearby homes

An outside fire at a home near Carthage damaged a shed Saturday afternoon. The fire broke out beside a residence in the 1000 block of Joel Road, near Frye Lane, just before 5 p.m.

According to officials on scene, the homeowner stated he had been burning earlier in the day and thought the fire was out. They had left the property to go to the store when the homeowner received a notification from a camera on his property and realized his shed was on fire.

Multiple departments responded to knock down the blaze, and thanks to the quick response, the shed was only lightly damaged on the outside and was not destroyed.

A golf cart was damaged in the blaze, but the fire was contained to the shed, and nearby mobile homes were not damaged.

Joel Road was down to one lane for a short time while crews worked to contain the fire.

The North Carolina Forest Service was on scene investigating.

Responding units were Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Forest Service.
