Dad charged after car with child inside rolls down hill

A father is facing charges after his car rolled away and went down an embankment with his 4-year-old child inside. The incident occurred at the Circle K gas station at the corner of Highway 211 and 15-501 in Aberdeen on Saturday night.

The Mercedes sedan rolled out of the parking lot, crossed Highway 211, and plunged down the embankment by the Public Works facility on South Pine Street and Mofield Way.

According to authorities, the man got out of his vehicle and went inside the store without realizing the car was rolling across the parking lot. A witness stated that when the man left the store, he immediately returned and said someone had taken his car.

The father was handcuffed at the scene and placed in the back of a patrol car. Aberdeen Police did not confirm the specific charges he faces, but they indicated that multiple charges are pending. His identity has not been released.

The child was assessed by EMS at the scene and transported to the hospital to be evaluated.
