Family and dog safe after house fire

A family in Southern Pines was displaced from their home Wednesday evening but is safe after a fire severely damaged it. Multiple agencies were dispatched to the residence at the end of Cardinal Road off Midland Road, across from Longleaf Golf Club.

Upon arrival of the first unit, heavy fire and smoke were visible from the upper level of the two-story home. The fire was attacked from the outside and inside and contained to the upper level, but the residence suffered extensive damage.

The two adults, their young daughter and the family’s dog were safe.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Duke Energy responded and removed power from the home.

On Thursday at 8 a.m., firefighters were called back to the scene when the flames rekindled.

Responding units on Wednesday were the Southern Pines Fire Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, and Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
