Four transported after collision on N.C. Highway 5 in Aberdeen

A crash involving two vehicles blocked both lanes of traffic near The Crossing shopping center in Aberdeen, sending four people to the hospital and forcing authorities to divert traffic through a nearby parking lot.

The collision happened directly in front of Vito’s Ristorante & Pizzeria along the busy stretch of road between Hardee’s and Food Lion on N.C. Highway 5.

According to responders on scene, the crash involved a gray Toyota SUV and a blue Toyota Prius. Airbags deployed in both vehicles during the collision.

Four people were transported from the scene by Moore County EMS. Three of the injured occupants were from the gray Toyota suv which was carrying a father and his two children. One male occupant from the blue Prius was also transported. Another occupant from the Toyota SUV refused ems.

Emergency response included the Aberdeen Fire Department, the Aberdeen Police Department, and Moore County EMS.

During the response, traffic was diverted through the Food Lion parking lot as crews cleared the roadway and assessed the scene. The road remained closed between Hardee’s and Food Lion for a period while emergency personnel managed the incident and removed the vehicles.

Authorities have not released additional information about the cause of the crash. The conditions of those transported were not immediately available.

Both lanes were closed while emergency crews worked the scene. Tow trucks removed vehicles from the roadway at approximately 6:30 p.m.
