What was thought to be an abandoned house was destroyed by fire near Robbins Friday morning.
The house is in the 300 block of Marley Road about four miles outside of Robbins. Authorities received the call of the structure fire shortly after 7:30 a.m.
According to officials from Robbins Fire and Rescue, “The house had no power, but someone had been staying there. Someone with no other place to go.”
Whoever had been staying there left early in the morning. The likely cause of the fire was some kind of heater, but it is under investigation, according to Robbins Fire and Rescue.
Due to limited water source in the area, multiple tankers were called in to feed the fire engines. High Falls Fire and Rescue, Carthage Fire and Rescue, and Westmoore Fire and Rescue all assisted with supplying water and fighting the fire. At a nearby pond, firefighters set up a water point just in case it was needed.
Moore County EMS was also on scene as a safety precaution, and Moore County Sheriff’s Office was on scene to assist in the investigation. Moore County Public Safety is investigating the exact cause of fire. Robbins Police Department was also on the scene for assistance.
