A mother and her nine-year-old daughter were injured Sunday evening when their vehicle hit a horse outside of Vass.

The accident killed the horse near the 2800 block of Cypress Church Road and sent the family to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with non-life threatening injuries, according to retired Cypress Pointe Firefighter, Frank Staples.

The impact from hitting the horse sent the car crashing into a tree and totaled the vehicle.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
