Local businesses recognized ethics by BBB

A local VA claim consulting firm and a local hardware store were recognized by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) serving Eastern North Carolina.

Veterans Guardian, of Pinehurst, and Burney Hardware, of Aberdeen, were recognized by the 2020 BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics, according to a Thursday statement from BBB.

Businesses have to “demonstrate a high level of character and ensure the organizations’ practices meet the highest standards of ethics” to be honored.

Veterans Guardian was the large business category winner. “Veterans Guardian is a VA Claim Consulting firm that is literally changing lives for veterans who have struggled for years trying to receive their earned benefits from the Department of Veteran Affairs,” said BBB. “The company has one mission – to help veterans attain all the VA benefits they are eligible for as a result of their honorable service to the nation.”

Burney Hardware, located on U.S. 15-501, was a midsize business finalist. The Ransdell family has owned the hardware store since 1982. They opened a second store in Seven Lakes at the beginning of 2018.

“These businesses generate trust among their employees, customers and their communities, and the BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics embodies the Better Business Bureau mission of advancing marketplace trust,” BBB said.

Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, the awards luncheon at Prestonwood County Club was canceled. The businesses were notified with virtual calls.
