Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced an arrest following an investigation of a convicted felon allegedly being in possession of a firearm in Southern Pines.
On Tuesday, sheriff’s investigators, ALE, and ATF executed a search warrant at a Southern Pines home in connection with the convicted felon being in possession of a firearm. During the search, investigators recovered multiple firearms, ammunition, and narcotics.
Sheriff’s investigators arrested Richard Fortner II, 36, of Southern Pines. Fortner was charged with ten counts of felony possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a schedule III substance.
Fortner was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance on Feb. 8. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
