K-9 assists in Southern Pines drug bust

The Southern Pines Police Department announced the arrests of Robert Burr, 34, of Carthage, and Cortnie Ferguson, 35 years, of Pinehurst.

On May 1, at 11:04 p.m., members of the Southern Pines Police Department’s Directed Patrol Unit conducted a vehicle stop on U.S. Highway 1 in the parking lot of the Best Western motel for a vehicle being operated without a registration plate, said the police department in a news release. 

During the officer’s investigation, which included the use of a department K-9, suspected drugs were located and seized, including .06 grams of cocaine, 1.28 grams of “crack” cocaine, 1.74 grams of methamphetamine, .54 grams of heroin, 34 dosage units of other controlled substances, along with eleven items of assorted drug paraphernalia and one firearm.

Burr appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center under no bond pending a hearing in court on May 16.

Cortnie Ferguson appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond pending a hearing in court on June 28. 

Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Department arrested Burr in 2020.
