man dies Pinehurst car crash

A single-vehicle accident in Pinehurst claimed the life of a man Wednesday. The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Linden Road, near Linden Trail.

Kenneth Gray Hampton, Jr., 26, was heading west when he lost control at a curve and struck a tree.

A nurse reportedly was one of the first on scene and called 911.

The victim was trapped in the vehicle due to the extensive damage, and firefighters had to cut the door off to reach him.

While emergency crews worked, a helicopter was dispatched to a nearby landing zone; however, the victim died at the scene shortly after he was freed from the wreckage.

Linden Road was completely shut down for an extended time due to the accident. Rockwell Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.

The Highway Patrol was on the scene and is investigating the cause of the accident. They did advise that speed was a factor in the accident.

Responding to the accident were Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Pinehurst Police, N.C. Highway Patrol, and Rockwell Towing.
