Man killed in crash outside of Seven Lakes

A High Point man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in West End on Sunday. A motorist called 911 to report a car down a steep embankment on N.C. Highway 211 near McLendon Hills Drive just before noon. The caller did not witness the incident.

First responders found a white Hyundai Sonata several yards off the road. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove the driver-side door. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the man was traveling westbound on Highway 211 when he ran off the right side of the road, down a 15-20 foot drop off, before coming to a stop 20-30 yards from the road. Troopers say they were unable to determine why he ran off the road, or what time the crash occurred. No breaking marks were found at the scene.

Highway 211 was shut down in both directions for two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The victim has been identified as Justin Jennings, age 20. Troopers say Jennings has family in the Seven Lakes area.

Responding to the crash were Seven Lakes Fire & Rescue, West End Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
