Moore County, in partnership with “We Are One” Church Collaboration and TEAMWORKZ, will be opening a temporary warming station at Moore County Sports Complex, 155 Hillcrest Park Lane, Carthage.

The warming station will be open on Saturday, Jan. 20, and Sunday, Jan. 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. The warming station will offer citizens a safe reprieve from the extreme cold temperatures; this is not a 24-hour shelter operation. Should the need arise, the county is prepared to convert the warming station into emergency shelter operations.

Pets are not allowed unless they meet the ADA service dog standards.

As a reminder, during extremely cold weather, dress in several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing instead of a single heavy layer, said Moore County Public Safety. Outer garments should be tightly woven and water-repellent. Wear a hat, mittens (not gloves), and sturdy waterproof boots to protect your arms, legs, hands and feet. Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs. People should also check on their neighbors who may be at high risk and ensure they have access to heat relief and hydration.
