A motorcyclist was airlifted after being struck by a car just outside of Vass Thursday morning.

The accident occurred in front of the Short Stop gas station on U.S. Highway 1 in Lakeview during the morning peak commute, according to Franks Staples with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue Department.

The motorcyclist was struck by a car as it came out of the Short Stop parking lot.

Emergency crews made the decision to airlift the victim to a trauma center. The helicopter landed at the Vass ball field.

Authorities did not release the victim’s name or condition.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC Highway Patrol.
