Motorcyclist airlifted after crashing into car

A car and a motorcycle collided on Highway 15-501 South near Stubby Oaks Road, south of Aberdeen. The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

According to N.C. State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Volkswagen Beetle stopped in the road to make a turn. The motorcycle driver could not stop in time and struck the car on the rear passenger side and bumper.

The male motorcyclist was injured in the accident. A medevac helicopter was dispatched and landed in a field off Highway 15-501 after the fire department set up a landing zone. Moore County EMS transported the victim to the helicopter, and he was flown to a trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the Volkswagen was uninjured.

The Highway Patrol was on the scene and is investigating the accident.
