Schools placed on soft lockdown

West Pine Middle School announced Thursday on its Facebook page that a circulating TiKTok post of a warning that the school “will be the subject of an alleged school shooting on Friday.”

The post on the social media platform is part of a region and nationwide “challenge.” School systems nationwide are increasing police presence in wake of the posts.

Moore County Schools Police are investigating, the school said.

West Pine Middle School said, “At this time there are no indications there is a threat specific to our school or any other school in MCS, and we continue to investigate throughout the day.”

However, students and families should contact the school if they hear or see anything else, the school said.

At the time of this report, classes will be in session on Friday, but there will be a heightened police presence on campus and at other county schools.

This comes on the heels of Pinecrest High School being placed on a “modified” lockdown last week after a gun was found in a student’s backpack.
